Adopt

Caring for a companion animal goes far beyond providing food, water and shelter. It takes research and careful planning to bring the right pet into your home, and to make sure your lifestyle is the right one for your pet. When adopting, you are making a commitment to care for an animal for the rest of his lifeā€”that could mean 10 to 15 years for dogs and up to 20 years for cats. As you go through lifestyle changes such as moves, the birth of children and new jobs, your animal will remain a permanent part of your life. If circumstances change, will you still be able to care for your pet? Visit the ASPCA site for a full list of adoption tips.

Adoption Process

Everything starts with an application. You must have an application on file in order to get any dogs out or go into the cat rooms to interact. The application does not hold you to anything, but shows us you are interested in adopting.

We do not have the staff for you to come play with the animals but we can always use volunteers if you are interested in helping out.

The application process takes 1-2 business days to get approved. We are only a staff of 3 so please be patient with us. Time permitting, same day cat adoptions may be possible.

During this process, we are looking that your current animals are spayed/neutered, and up to date on vaccines. You are allowed 1 unaltered pet in the household (we encourage you to spay and neuter all pets) and all animals must be up to date on the Rabies vaccine (state law). We do recommend all core vaccines, especially if your dog will be coming into the shelter for a meet and greet.

Once your application is processed and you are approved to adopt, we will set up a meet and greet (for dogs) to bring your dog(s) in to make sure everyone gets along before taking them home. If there are no animals for a meet and greet, it will be a matter of setting up a time for you to pick up, ideally within the next 2 business days.

All cats must leave in a carrier and dogs on a leash. Cardboard boxes (for cats) are available for purchase for $10.00 and a variety of leashes and collars are available for dogs as well.

We work on the applications in the order we receive them. The animal will go home to the first approved applicant. For example: if you turn your application in first for the adorable 8 week old puppy but you can't get your animals into the vet for a Rabies vaccine until 1 week from today, your application is incomplete until that is done and we will move on to the next applicant.

After submitting your application, it will be kept on file for 30 days.
